The First IES Friends' Lecture, by Ron Schuchard: 12 May 2014: ALL WELCOME

Thursday 3 April 2014

A special lecture and wine reception on Monday 12 May 2014 (6pm, Lecture Theatre, Institute of Advanced Legal Studies: 17 Russell Square) to mark the launch of the Institute’s Friends subscription scheme.  Professor Ronald Schuchard (Emory University, Senior Research Fellow IES) will give the First IES Friends’ Lecture: ‘ “Into the heartland of the ordinary”: Seamus Heaney, Thomas Hardy, and the Divided Traditions of Modern and Contemporary Poetry’.  Drawing on personal, archival, and uncollected materials, the lecture traces Heaney’s lifelong devotion to the poetry and novels of Thomas Hardy, his master poet, through whom he defined and redefined his own aesthetic of the ordinary world against the magical and religious traditions of Yeats and Eliot.

All welcome.  If you would like to attend this event, please email IESEvents@sas.a.uk or call +44 (0)207 862 8675.
