Statement on the 'Academic Boycott'

Thursday 4 April 2019

Statement on the ‘Academic Boycott’ of Senate House, from the Advisory Council of the Institute of English Studies:

'The Advisory Council affirms its support for bringing in-house outsourced workers of the University of London and acknowledges the commitment of the University of London Senior Management to this process.

However, Council notes with concern the challenges the Institute faces. The boycott of the Senate House building impacts on the public-facing work of the Institute, on the Institute’s colleagues in professional services, its students, early career academics and Fellows. It also impacts on all those interested in English Studies in London and elsewhere who regularly attend seminars and events organised by the Institute.

Given the potential for lasting reputational and financial damage to the Institute, we urge that all interested parties should make every effort to de-escalate the situation.'
