Continuation of the Institute of English Studies agreed

The Board of Trustees of the University of London yesterday approved the School of Advanced Study’s sustainability plan, which includes the continuation of the Institute of English Studies in its current form.  We are naturally delighted with this decision which ends a difficult period of uncertainty. It endorses the essential work that the Institute undertakes in enhancing innovative research in English, one of the largest disciplines in the Humanities.

IES Advisory Board Member Awarded OBE

Anne Chisholm, Chair of the Royal Society of Literature and a member of the Institute's Advisory Council, has been awarded an OBE for services to literature in the New Year’s Honour List .

Distinguished Senior Research Fellow Professor Sir Brian Vickers wins 2014 Beverley Rogers Literary Award

Professor Sir Brian Vickers , FBA, (IES distinguished senior research fellow) has won the 2014 Beverley Rogers Literary Award for an article on 17th-century playwright, Ben Jonson. This annual prize is given to the writer of the best essay in each year’s volume of the Ben Jonson Journal, a twice-a-year review devoted to the study of the playwright and ‘the culture in which his manifold literary efforts thrived’.
