Anniversary Joyce - XXV International James Joyce Symposium 2016

Joyce symposiumMonday 13 - Saturday 18 June 2016, Senate House

Anniversary Joyce examined anniversaries, celebrations and commemorations that link with James Joyce, 1916 and the significant historical events that took place that year: the Easter Rising, the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Verdun, the invention of the light switch, the founding of Dadaism, the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, the death of Henry James, Enrico Caruso’s recording of ‘O Sole Mio’, and the publications of Ferdinand de Saussure’s Cours de linguistique générale and (naturally) A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. The aim was to explore a variety of historical, literary-historical, cultural, geographical and geo-political topics that may elucidate James Joyce’s life and work.
