Description

This year, our seventh, the theme is 'Anglo-Saxon London'. Drawing on literary, archaeological, and historical sources, we will consider how London was created both as a physical and conceptual place in Anglo-Saxon England. We will then enjoy performances based on readings from Old English poems by students from Royal Holloway, University of London. We will end with a wine reception.

               Paper 3: Andrew Reynolds (UCL), ‘The Emergence of London as a City in Anglo-Saxon England’

4.50pm    Paper 4: Richard North (UCL), 'King Cnut and the Garrison City of London'

                Paper 5: Michael Bintley (Canterbury), 'London and Other Cities in Anglo-Saxon Texts'

5.50pm    Student Performances

6.10pm    Closing Remarks and Wine Reception
