London Nineteenth Century Studies Postgraduate Colloquium V

London Nineteenth Century Studies Postgraduate Colloquium V
20 January 2018, 9.00am - 6.00pm
Room 349, Third Floor, Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU

From waterside thievery in Our Mutual Friend to Victorian physics and water in art, the fifth London Nineteenth-Century Studies Postgraduate Colloquium comprises a fascinating range of nineteenth-century topics. These innovative papers shed new light on nineteenth-century studies as we consider art and visual cultures, literature, history, science, geographies, communication and popular culture. Drawing together postgraduates and early career researchers from various disciplines, the symposium aims to provide a friendly, collegiate environment to share insights and provide a foundation for building professional networks.

We are delighted to welcome two outstanding plenary speakers: Professor Patricia Pullham (Surrey) will deliver the keynote address, entitled ‘Writing the Object: Victorian Literature and the Visual Arts’. The plenary paper will be given by Dr. Adelene Buckland (King’s College, London).

Registration is free, though booking is essential. The colloquium has been generously funded by the London Nineteenth Century Studies Seminar, which meets regularly at the IES throughout the year.
