Professor David D'Avray, FBA, Professor of History, University College London on ‘Mass Production of Books before Printing’

About

Professor David D’Avray, FBA, is one of the most distinguished medieval scholars writing in the English language and his scholarship is internationally acclaimed. From 1977 he was successively lecturer, reader and professor of History at UCL: he was promoted professor in 1996 and elected FBA in 2005. He is a Corresponding Fellow of the Medieval Academy of America (2016). His major publications include books on medieval marriage (2005), medieval religious rationalities (2010) and papacy, monarchy and marriage (2015). His research and teaching have ranged widely across ancient, medieval and modern periods, with a particular focus on social theory. He has been a constant supporter and promoter of Palaeography, Diplomatic and Manuscript Studies in London from his arrival at UCL in 1977.
